Does the school have to follow a private assistive technology evaluation?
If a parent shares a private evaluation, ask the team to document how the results were considered when making IEP decisions. That does not mean the team will adopt every recommendation. Ask what school data and reasoning supports any recommendation the team is not adopting.
What should I compare first?
Start with access barriers, trialed tools, device features, training needs, settings, data, and AT recommendations, then compare those findings with assistive technology consideration, accommodations, services, training, implementation notes, goals, and progress measures.
What if the school says it considered the report but changed nothing?
Ask where that response is documented. If you requested an IEP, evaluation, or service change and the team refused it, ask if Prior Written Notice (PWN) will be provided.
